Freyer is the family name of my grandmother Johanna (Hannsche) maternal side. She is born in Battweiler, perhaps on the Ohmbacher Hof near Battweiler. The “Ohmbacher Hof” no longer exists.
Her ancestors lived in Kleinsteinhausen, Zweibruecken area, Palatinate.

Ancestors

One can conclude from various indications that the Freyers were among the early residents of Kleinsteinhausen, i.e. before the 30 Years' War.
According to a report on the state of the Duchy of Zweibrücken by the king's envoy from 1677, there were 6 families settled in Kleinsteinhausen, probably at least one of them with the name Freyer. However, I don't have any detailed sources yet.
The Reformed Church of Kleinsteinhausen belonged to the Hornbach parish from 1580 to 1790. Since the old Hornbach church records were burned during the Second World War, there are significant gaps for the Freyer families. The Zweibrücken Working Group for Family Research has worked on reconstructing a lot of data. I have some more detailed information, but it is not publicly permitted for legal reasons.
At MyHeritage, Laudemann Web Site by Michael Hübner, I found very early entries, but without any sources. I've included them here anyway, so maybe they'll provide clues for further research. According to that website, the oldest Freyer ancestor is
Melchior Freyer
He is probably the progenitor of the many Freyer families in Kleinsteinhausen, Nünschweiler and other places in this area.
He could have been born around 1600. and had 3 children:

  1. Johann Caspar Freyer,

  2. Regina Freyer, born in 1658?, died in 1742 in Niederauerbach,

  3. Johann Heinrich Freyer, born around 1660 and died in Kleinsteinhausen,
married to Anna Ottilia, 1660 - 1729 from Kleinsteinhausem.

The female descendants often have relationships with Knerr families.

Freyer emigrants:

  • Johann Heinrich Freyer, 1760 - 1796, emigrated to Galicia, at that time Austria

  • Balthasar Freyer, 1767 - 1842, emigrated to Freudental, Odessa, Ukraine.

  • Heinrich Jacob Freyer, 1819 - 1907, emigrated to the USA in 1837 at the age of 19, Departure: Le Havre, France Arrival: 25 Nov 1837 New York, USA, with the ship Lorena.

Today there are in Kleinsteinhausen many individuals with the surname Freyer. In local phone book I have found 8 items.
